Dave walked into the elevator lobby of his New York city apartment he shared with his boyfriend, Josh. He greeted the doorman, a big smile on his face and an unopened letter in his hand.
"Getting the news on that new modeling job?" The doorman, Craig asked.
Dave stopped in front of the elevator and pushed the up arrow. He turned to face Craig and nodded. "Yep! Hopefully it's some good news!"
The elevator doors dinged and slowly opened. "Good luck, Dave!" Craig watched as Dave stepped onto the elevator.
Dave pushed the button for the 9th floor, shifting his weight from one foot to the other as he impatiently waited for the elevator to reach his floor.
When the doors finally opened, Dave ran down the hallway to his apartment, fumbling with the keys to find the right one.
"Josh! " Dave screamed as he opened the door.
Josh, who was sitting on the couch, looked up at him, startled and then quickly stood up.
"I have some news!" Dave frantically waved the letter in his hands while trying to take off his shoes with his free hand, almost falling in the process.
Josh sheepishly rubbed the back of his head. "Listen Dave, I think we need to talk. I can't-"
"No!" Dave whined. "Me first! I've had this letter for over three hours but I waited till I got home to open it with you!"
" Dave, I don't really want to do this right now. I really need to talk with you." Josh sat back down on the couch and ran his hand through his hair.
"Nonsense!  It can wait till after!" Dave jumped onto the couch, tearing at the letter. He pulled out the letter and waved it in front of Josh's face. "Ready?"
Josh gave Dave a half smile before frowning again.
Dave cleared his throat and began to read. "Dear Dave, we regret to inform you that we will not be seeing you in our next modeling position." Dave stopped reading out loud, his heart feeling like it stopped. He skimmed over the rest of the letter before placing the letter on the coffee table in front of him with a sigh.
"Well it looks like I won't be traveling to Paris for my next job." Dave said, teary eyed. He turned to look at Josh, a sad smile on his face. "But at least that means I'll be staying with you. And it's not like I still can't do my photo shoot for the magazine."
Josh kept silent, looking guilty at his lap.
Dave felt his heart drop to his stomach as he saw the look on Josh's face. He took a deep breath to get rid of his feeling of dread that suddenly washed over him. "So what did you want to talk about?" His words came out shaky.
Josh was silent for a moment before speaking. "I don't think I can do this anymore, Dave."
Dave looked at him confused. "What do you mean?"
"I'm saying that this isn't going to work anymore."
Dave scrunched his nose in confusion. "What's not going to work? Me being a model?!" He started to raise his voice. "Look, I never would've become a model if it wasn't for you saying I'd be good at it. And I usually can pay my part of rent but if you need me to get a part-time job just say something. You don't need to-"
"Its not about your modeling." Josh cut him off.
Dave patiently waited for him to continue. When Josh made no indication of continuing, he let out a sigh. "If its not about my modeling, then what is it about? I'm not a mind reader, babe." He laughed nervously at the end.
"That." Josh spoke up. "That right there." He stood up and began to pace in front of the coffee table.
Dave watched in confusion. When Josh abruptly stopped and spun to look at Dave,  he was taken aback.
    "I don't think I'm actually gay, Dave."
Dave starred at him before letting out a sharp, loud laugh. "Then what was the past year and a half to you? A phase?" He started to laugh.
    "Well, yeah." Josh replied.
Dave stopped his laughter, all his amusement turning to seriousness. "Are you kidding me right now?"
Josh shook his head. "I don't want you to get the wrong idea, but-"
Dave cut him off,  standing and glaring at Josh. "Why the fuck would you do this to me? Like was this really worth a good laugh to you? Did you make a bet with all your little high school buddies seeing how long you can get the school fag to stay with you?" Dave started to wipe the tears that were falling. "This is a really sick joke."
"Dave. Our relationship was not a joke." Josh said.
Dave let out a bitter laugh. "Could've fooled me." He muttered.
"This was not a joke, Dave. In college, I really did find you attractive. But, I must've taken that as a sign that I must be gay. But as time went on I still got off thinking of girls. I think I was more in lust with you."
    Dave's glare narrowed. "Get out."
Josh rolled his eyes. "Come on, don't be like that. Its not that I don't like you anymore, I just don't want to date you anymore."
"Get the fuck out of my apartment Josh!" Dave screamed.
     "Its actually our apart-"
      "GET OUT!"
"Where the fuck am I suppose to go?" Josh glared at Dave.
"I don't care! Anywhere but here!" Dave screamed louder. The tears were falling faster and Dave started sobbing. He sat on the couch and held his head in his hands.
Josh watched as Dave broke down crying before sighing and shaking his head. "Whatever." He turned and walked out of the apartment.

A month after Josh officially moved out, left Dave stressed and desperately looking for a way to pay rent.
"Someone out of all these people have to be a good roommate." Dave went over the emails he received, carefully looking them over. Each person he was about to choose,  he'd find something wrong and continue searching.
The intercom buzz drew Dave out of his search. From the couch he looked quizzically at the door before making his way to the door.
    "Yes?" Dave answered.
"Dave, " Craig sounded mildly irritated. "There's someone here to talk with you about your room for rent."
Dave looked puzzled at the intercom before pushing the button to reply. " Tell him to go away. I don't accept people applying in person unless they have an appointment." He pushed the listening button and heard nothing.  Just as he was about to go back but to his spot on the couch where his laptop was keeping his seat warm, Craig's voice spoke up.
"He says he's willing to pay all the rent for you if you just give him the time to talk with him."
Dave looked at the intercom, stunned. Someone was willing to pay all of the rent just to talk? If they had that kind of money, why don't they get their own place? Dave thought to himself. He shook himself out of his thoughts and hit the talk button. "Um okay. I'll buzz him up."
Dave waited nervously by the door, waiting for the mystery man. He jumped when there was a knock on the door. He let out a deep breath he didn't realize he was holding and opened the door. "Hello, it's nice to meet-" He stopped mid-sentence, and was silenced by the person in front of him.
There in the doorway stood his ex-boyfriend, Seth. His hair was now the natural blonde color instead of the dyed black with silver streaks that he use to see. His skin had a little more of a tan and he was positive that he gained more muscles in his arms.
"Seth? Is that really you?" Dave questioned.
The man before him let out a breath of what seemed to be relief. "So you do remember me." It was a statement and the smile that followed reminded Dave of all the feelings he had with this man two years ago.
Dave gave him a warm and welcoming smile in return. "Of course. Here, come in and have a seat." He held the door open and stepped to the side. "Can I get you anything?"
Seth looked around the room as he made his way to the couch. "No I'm good." He sat down next to the laptop. "Not too bad of a place for me to live in."
Dave stopped in front of the coffee table and crossed his arms over his chest. "And what makes you so sure I'm picking you to stay here?" A smile was threatening to break through his serious face.
Seth looked at Dave before giving him a smirk that made Dave's heart skip a beat. "Not only will I be paying rent for you but I do need to tell you something and I'm determined to make my point until I do stay here."
Dave's smile turned to a frown.
"Listen," Seth's smirk was gone and replaced by a look mixed with concern and seriousness. "Megan told me what happened with Josh and the situation you're in."
Dave sighed as he placed his laptop on the coffee table and sat down. "Oh, so you're here to pity me. That's not gonna be good enough for me letting you stay. I-"
"You didn't let me finish." Seth interrupted. "Ever since we sold the house to go our separate ways, all I've thought about was you."
    Dave looked at him, surprised.
"I've tried being with girls and guys." Seth shook his head. "But nothing and no one could erase the memory of you."
Dave looked down at his lap. "Then how come you've never talked to me since before I moved?"
Seth laughed bitterly.  "Come on, Dave. We both know how happy you were with Josh back then. And I could hear the two of you sometimes." Seth paused, thinking of his next words. "Its hard to admit this, Dave. But I was jealous. You could have sex with Josh but not me. You always had those flashbacks. I just thought you didn't find me attractive enough to forget about Kevin."
"But I told you I was over him!" Dave replied desperately. "If you just gave me another chance, I would have been fully committed to you! After that incident with Dom, I broke up with Kevin and to this day I haven't talked to or anything thought about him since!" He was out of breath and felt like crying.
Seth nodded his head. "I understand that now and if I could go back and change my mind, I would do it in a heartbeat. But I've made a mistake and its the only thing I've ever regret." Seth turned to face Dave and grabbed his hands gently. "You've got to understand now, Dave. All the shit we've been through together, I would still do that over and over again then be with anyone else. I was right on our first date at the mall."
Dave sniffed as he was trying to hold back tears. He looked deeply onto Seth's eyes. "Oh yeah? And what's that?"
Seth smiled lovingly at Dave and Dave could feel his heartbeat speeding up. "I was right for believing that you were the one. My best friend, my soul mate and my lover. Dave, I love you."
Dave could no longer hold back the tears and gave Seth the largest smile he could muster. "Seth, I love you too."
Seth leaned forward and kissed Dave passionately, holding him tight against him. The kiss was heated and lasted a few minutes until they pulled away. "So we can move my stuff in tomorrow. Tonight, we're going to need to be reaquatined with each other." Seth smirked.
Dave wiped away the traces of his tears and started laughing, falling into Seth's chest. Everything was going to work out just fine.
OH MY GOD! I finally did it! I finished the story I've been working on for 6 years! You don't need to worry too much about the side characters if you've never read the full storystory. All you need to know is, Kevin was Dave's first boyfriend who was a jerk. Dom is Seth's "best friend" what has beaten Dave up on multiple occasions due to Dave "turning Seth gay". And then Megan who is Dave's best friend since forever and has stuck with him through lots of stuff in his life. I still can't believe I finally have an ending to my most prized story. I love it so much!
